Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Alarms

Kidde Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Alarms

carbon-monoxideSince July 2009 it is a Colorado State Law that homes have a Carbon Monoxide alarm in them. As a service we offer Kidde Carbon Monoxide & Smoke alarms for your family’s protection. So when we come to your home for a furnace check or service work please ask us about carbon monoxide alarms.

The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, Carbon Monoxide (CO) is odorless, tasteless and invisible – it’s a silent killer. The only safe way to know if carbon monoxide is present is to install carbon monoxide detectors (alarms) on every level of your home and in sleeping areas. Kidde has been making CO alarms with electrochemical sensing technology for years. All of Kidde’s CO alarm products – from basic units to premium CO alarms – include the company’s patented Nighthawk™ electrochemical CO sensor.

Kidde AlarmCarbon Monoxide poisoning symptoms to be aware of:

  • Mild Exposure: Headaches, running nose, sore eyes, often described as “ flu-like symptoms
  • Medium Exposure: Dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting.
  • Extreme Exposure: unconsciousness, brain damage, death.

The state of Colorado has passed law HB-1091 requiring all newly constructed, existing and rental dwellings that have a fuel-fired heater or appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage to have carbon monoxide alarms installed.

Kidde Alarm

According to Colorado’s State Law:
CO alarms are required to be installed within 15' of entrance to each sleeping area and must be:

  • Wired to AC power
  • Plugged into an outlet without a switch
  • Or if battery, attached to the wall or ceiling per NFPA 720

Because the alarms sensors to carbon monoxide and smoke become less sensitive over time, some Kidde alarms after 7 years of use will “chirp” every 30 seconds. This is to let you know the alarm has reached its operational end of life and you should replace the entire alarm as soon as possible.

Kidde alarms are UL listed and approved for installation and come with a 5 year limited warranty.
